Mission Possible: Dave’s House Party Showcases Community Collaboration and Bold Expansion Plans

At Dave’s House, we believe that when a community comes together around housing and mental health, lives are transformed. That belief came to life at our annual fundraising gala, Dave’s House Party: Mission Possible, held on September 20th at the Sheraton Orlando North in Maitland. The evening brought together civic leaders, sponsors, nonprofit partners, and supporters who share our commitment to ending homelessness for adults with serious mental illness. More than just a celebration, this year’s event was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when collaboration, compassion, and vision meet. Check out all of our images here.

A Collaborative Tapestry

This year’s Mission Possible theme reflected the spirit of teamwork that defines everything we do. From healthcare professionals and first responders to local philanthropists and nonprofit allies, every guest represented a thread in the fabric of our mission. Together, we are building more than homes — we are building futures filled with dignity, purpose, and hope.

Honoring Leadership in Action

One of the evening’s most inspiring moments was the presentation of the 2025 Dr. Joel C. Hunter Legacy Award to Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, honoring his dedication to expanding affordable housing and mental health resources across Central Florida. Mayor Demings was surprised with two guests invited to speak on his behalf. Speaking on his behalf were Shannon Gravitte, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for AdventHealth, and Terry Prather, Board Chair of Dr. Phillips Charities, who shared heartfelt words about the Mayor’s commitment to building a healthier, stronger community.

Mission in Motion

Our residents were the true stars of the evening. Partnering with our friends at Chance 2Dance, several residents took the stage to share their joy and creativity through dance — a moment that earned a standing ovation. Their performance wasn’t just entertainment; it was a living example of how stability, support, and community open the door to recovery and fulfillment.

At Dave’s House, residents thrive because they have both a safe place to call home and access to wraparound services that help them live independently and with purpose. With a 90% housing retention rate, our model continues to prove that permanent supportive housing works — empowering individuals to build meaningful lives and embrace their potential.

Heroes Among Us

The evening also featured a spirited Heroes Auction, led by community champions including Chief Charles Salazar of the Orlando Fire Department and Chief Luis Quinones of Orange County Corrections, with the support of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Through their leadership, the auction raised vital funds to fuel our programs — and reminded everyone that heroes come in many forms. From first responders and healthcare professionals to correctional officers and community advocates, the night celebrated all who serve, protect, and uplift others. Guests bid on three exclusive “Hero for a Day” experiences, offering the chance to step into the world of these everyday heroes — a unique way to celebrate service while supporting our mission.

Announcing Our Next Chapter

The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of our newest community: Dave’s House at Celery Community in Sanford. Developed in partnership with Community Assisted & Supported Living (CASL) and HomeAid Orlando, this five-acre neighborhood will include eight duplex homes and a 3,500-square-foot community center offering on-site behavioral health services. Thanks to a $1 million Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta grant and a land gift from Family of Friends, Inc., this project will more than double our current housing capacity and serve as a model for permanent supportive housing across Florida.

Dave’s House Party: Mission Possible was a celebration of what we’ve accomplished together — and a bold step toward what comes next. The energy, generosity, and commitment in that room will fuel our work for years to come. With every partnership and every act of compassion, we are proving that permanent supportive housing is not just possible — it’s transformative.

Together, we’re building more than homes. We’re building hope.
